Biography

Dr. Kay O’Donnell is currently an Assistant Professor and Chair in the Mass Communication program at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. She has been at OLLU since 2002 serving as the primary journalism professor and adviser to the student news media which includes print, online and digital television. Dr. O’Donnell has more than 20 years of professional experience in print media at newspapers such as The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune, The (San Antonio) Express-News, The (Lafayette, La.) Daily Advertiser and The (Alexandria, La.) Daily Town Talk. During her years in the newsroom, she served as an editor, designer and feature writer.

Research Interest

The Hispanic media as it evolves from traditional to new media platforms; how the Hispanic population, particularly the younger age set, utilizes social media and mobile technologies in its search for news; and the changing role of college news organizations, and their usage of new technologies, particularly digital, mobile and social media.
