Prof. Dr. K. Natarajan was born on 9th May, 1949 in an agricultural family at a small village, Puthur (near Tirupur) in Coimbatore District in Tamil Nadu, India . He studied up to 7th standard at Semmandampalayam (there was not even an elementary school in the village of his birth) about two kilometers away from Puthur. Later on, he joined Bishop Ubagarasamy High School at Tirupur where he completed S.S.L.C. He did Bachelors degree at P.S.G. Arts College, Coimbatore and Masters degree in Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Madras, Chennai where he obtained University First Rank. He had the privilege of doing research at Indian Institute of Technology- Kanpur, a prestigious institute in India for his doctorate degree in Chemistry and he obtained the Ph.D. degree in 1976.Prof. K. Natarajan has been awarded with the prestigious Alexander Von Humboldt Fellowship (Germany) to work at University of Konstanz, University of Heidelberg, University of Stuttgart and at the Technical University of Chemnitz, Germany for over four years starting from 1979. He was also awarded with another prestigious fellowship, Senior Fulbright Fellowship(USA) to work at Yale University, New Haven and at University of South Carolina, USA for two years (1984 and 1985) .Moreover, based on his academic excellence he has been invited twice(1997 and 2003) as Visiting Professor by Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan.
