Biography

Lalitha Guruprasad obtained her M. Sc (1989) and Ph. D (1993) in Chemistry from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. Later, she worked as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at Birkbeck College, London, in collaboration with Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, London and Glaxo-Wellcome, Stevenage, UK. She worked on the characterization of the function and structure of some of the molecules in the signal transduction pathways, for instance, SH2 domains and their interaction with phosphorylated peptides, SH3 domain-polyproline interactions and PH domain. Dr. Lalitha Guruprasad has used tools in molecular biology, protein purification, structure determination using X-ray crystallography and protein-ligand binding assays using ITC and surface plasmon resonance. She also worked as a post doctoral research fellow at CCMB, Hyderabad, India. Dr. Lalitha Guruprasad joined the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad as a Lecturer, in the year 2000. Currently, she is a Reader at the University. Besides teaching courses in organic reaction mechanisms, spectroscopy, biological chemistry and related laboratory courses, Dr. Lalitha Guruprasad is pursuing research in the areas of genome sequence analysis, three dimensional structure modeling and drug design using in-silico methods.Research emphasis is on the proteins in Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome and other disease related organisms. Dr. Lalitha Guruprasad’s lab has also developed ab-initio methods for the identification of repeats and domains in proteins using computational tools.
