Maria Karra holds a Bachelor’s degree in engineering physics (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 1998), a Master’s degree in electrical engineering (Boston University, 2000), a Master’s degree in applied linguistics (Macquarie University, 2003), as well as graduate certificates in translation (University of Manitoba, 2000) and medical interpreting (University of Massachusetts at Amherst, 2012).
She currently works as a translator and editor in various fields of engineering. In addition to her translation and editing work, she has eleven years of experience in spacecraft instrumentation testing and software quality engineering. Maria Karra is a founding member of the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI) and president of its Ethics Committee, as well as a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
