Biography

Nevalainen completed her MD in the University of Turku, School of Medicine, Finland, in 1992, became a licensed physician in 1993 and received her PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Turku in 1997. Dr. Nevalainen served in a variety of internships in medicine, pediatrics, anesthesiology and surgery and in a series of fellowships including the Finnish Academy of Science Fellowship and a WHO fellowship. From 2002 to 2006 she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology at Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in Georgetown, Washington and is currently Associate Professor in the department of Cancer Biology at Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University and the Associate Director of Education at Kimmel Cancer Center. Dr. Nevalainen is an American Cancer Society Research Scholar and a recipient of various awards for her research in prostate cancer.

Endocrine related cancers, prostate cancer, hormone action, growth factor signaling, Stat transcription factors, biomarkers, translational cancer research, therapy development, target validation.
