Marsha J. Handel, MLS is the Director of Informatics and Online Education, Department of Integrative Medicine, Beth Israel Medical Center. Former senior medical librarian at Beth Israel, Ms. Handel earned her BA in psychology from Columbia University and her degree in Library Science at the City University of New York. She is the co-author of a resource guide published by the Medical Library Association and selected for Library Journal’s “Years Best List” for professional reading, 1997. She has authored book chapters and articles in peer reviewed journals on integrative informatics and is adjunct faculty for the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine and Residency in Urban Family Practice at Beth Israel. Ms. Handel has specialized in developing grant-funded online multimedia educational modules on the integrative approach to health and disease, including a 3 year NLM/NIH-funded grant on chronic disease as well as a diabetes self-management module being tested in a clinical trial at Beth Israel. She is currently completing an online professional educational module on Integrative Informatics for the University of Arizona, Center for Integrative Medicine.
