Professor Maureen J Simmonds is a physiotherapist and researcher interested in understanding measuring and managing the impact of chronic pain and illnesses on mood movement and activity She has many years of clinical and academic experience in the UK Canada and the USA She has focused on understanding and assessing the impact of pain and other symptoms on movement and function in individuals with chronic disorders Clinical questions have guided her funded programmatic research Professor Simmonds developed and tested simple physical performance batteries for use as clinical assessment and outcome measures in patients with musculoskeletal and systemic disorders She uses laboratory based methods including virtual reality to study task performance in individuals with chronic pain and other health disorders Professor Simmonds has more than 100 peer reviewed publications and is a regularly invited speaker at National and International Conferences
