Biography

Michael McDevitt is Associate Professor in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado, Boulder. His research interests include political communication, political socialization, and media studies. He is the principal investigator for “Colors of Socialization,” an externally funded project that explores the roles of schools, media, and families in adolescent political identity. In media sociology, Prof. McDevitt is writing a book on anti-intellectualism in American journalism. His work is published in journals in communication, political science, and education. He is a recipient of the International Communication Association’s Outstanding Public Policy Research Award. Prior to his teaching career, he worked for eight years as a reporter and editorial writer in the San Francisco Bay Area. He holds a BA in political science from the University of California at Berkeley, a MA in journalism and mass communication from San Jose State University, and a PhD in communication from Stanford University.
