Dr Nicolas Christian BUCHS, MD, is Faculty and Swiss Board Certified Surgeon at the Department of Surgery, University Hospitals of Geneva, Switzerland. He received his medical degree from the University of Geneva and completed his General Surgery Residency at the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland. He received his medical doctorate in 2007 with his work on the vascularisation of the pancreas and its surgical importance for treating pancreatic cancer. He also worked as attending surgeon in the Emergency Department of the University Hospital of Geneva, before arriving in Chicago, USA, in 2009. He joined Professor Giulianotti’s team, pioneer in the field of robotic surgery. He did a research Fellowship in the Division of General, Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. When he returned to Geneva, he was promoted Faculty Surgeon and Head of the Multidisciplinary Center for Surgical Teaching - Centre Multidisciplinaire d’Enseignement Chirurgical (CMEC) at the Department of Surgery, University Hospitals of Geneva. Over the last 6 years, Dr Buchs has published more than 50 scientific papers concerning mainly surgical oncology with a special interest in new technology for pancreatic and colorectal surgery. He is especially interested in the minimally invasive and robotic approach and its applications in general surgery.
