Dr. Pengtao Sun is an Associate Professor of Mathematical Sciences at University of Nevada Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. He received the B.S. (1991) and M.S. (1994) at Shandong University, China, and Ph.D. (1997) at the Institute of Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prior to joining University of Nevada Las Vegas in 2007, Dr. Sun was a postdoctoral fellow (2001-2004) and Assistant Professor (2005-2007) at the Department of Mathematics, Pennsylvania State University, USA. Dr. Sun’s primary research fields are numerical analysis and scientific & engineering computing. His research interests spread over numerical PDE, finite element method, finite volume method, domain decomposition method, adaptive mesh method, fast solver and phase field model. Recently, his interests focus on the anisotropic adaptive finite element methods for dealing with largescale and multiscale phenomena, modeling and numerical studies of fuel cell dynamics, and fluid-structure interaction problem. Some involved projects include astronomy-black hole system, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell dynamics, thin film flow, Navier-Stokes-Darcy coupling flow, and etc.
