Biography

Prakash Nagarkatti is currently an Associate Dean for Basic Science, Advisor to the Vice President for Research, and Carolina Distinguished Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Defense Research and Development Establishment and Jiwaji University in 1981 and pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at McMaster University. He is also the Director of NIH-funded Center of Research Excellence on Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Autoimmune and Inflammatory Diseases. He has held faculty positions at the University of Kentucky, Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University. He has received numerous awards from the International Congress of Mucosal Immunology, Society of Toxicology, and the Virginia Academy of Sciences. He has served as a Chair of several NIH Study Sections, Editorial Boards of journals and a reviewer for several national and international funding agencies. His research has generated more than $20 million and he has published over 140 papers.
