Biography

Purba Das (Ph.D., Washington State University, 2009) is an Associate Professor of Communication Studies at Ohio University, Southern. Her teaching and research interests are intercultural communication and health communication. She employs a critical approach in the field of intercultural communication in understanding the problematics of nations, national identity, media, and a culture-centered approach to health communication to analyze health narratives of marginalized populations in both developing and developed nations. The primary focus of her research is to critically analyze the contesting and discursive articulation of identity, representation, and health-related messages in regional, national and transnational contexts through media images, and language usage that shape views and ideas. Specifically, she employ a critical approach in the field of intercultural communication in understanding the problematics of nations, national identity, media, and a culture-centered approach to health communication to analyze health narratives of marginalized populations in both developing and developed nations.
