Sunder Mudaliar, is Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, as well as Research Scientist at the Veterans Medical Research Foundation in San Diego. Dr. Mudaliar′s research focus is on the mechanisms of insulin resistance in obesity and type 2 diabetes and he has authored more than 80 original publications, book chapters and review articles. He has had medical training in India, England and the United States. Currently, Dr. Mudaliar is the principle investigator of a national study to determine the efficacy of pioglitazone (an insulin sensitizer) in preventing diabetes and is also a co-investigator on the NIH-sponsored Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS). Dr. Mudaliar has also participated as a principal investigator on several clinical trials involving inhaled insulin, long-acting and short-acting insulin analogs, and new oral anti-diabetic agents.
