Dr. Szczepan Baran currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Veterinary
Bioscience Institute in Harleysville, Pennsylvania and is a course director at Drexel University College of
Medicine for the online Masters of Laboratory Animal Science Program in Philadelphia. Until recently he
also held a special volunteer position at the National Cancer Institute Laboratory of Genomic Diversity.
Prior to his work with the Veterinary Bioscience Institute, Dr. Baran served as faculty at the Delaware
Valley College. Dr. Baran earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Washington, a
Veterinary Medical Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science degree in
Animal Science from the University of Delaware. His current work centers on the refinement and development ofgastrointestinal and laparoscopic rodent reproductive procedures and the development andimplementation of surgical competency assessment programs. He has served as a chair and co-chair onvarious laboratory animal science program committees and has numerous publications in the field oflaboratory animal medicine and surgery.
