Biography

Dr. Vecihi Batuman is the Chief of Medicine at the New Orleans VA Medical Center, and the Dr. A. Rudolph and Ruth Ryder Huberwald Professor of Medicine at Tulane University Medical School, Department of Medicine-Section of Nephrology. He received his M.D. from Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey and completed his Internal Medicine and Nephrology training at Jersey City Medical Center, New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Batuman is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology, certified as Hypertension Specialist by the American Society of Hypertension, and a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology. His research interests include mechanisms of acute and chronic kidney disease, environmental kidney disease, and hypertension. He has more than 80 peer-reviewed publications in medical journals on kidney diseases and hypertension. Dr Batuman is the Chief Editor for the Nephrology Section of Medscape, and is the President-elect of the American Society of Hypertension –Gulf Central Chapter.
