Dr. Chan, PhD obtained his B.Sc. from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Ph.D. from the University of Florida, USA. He later joined the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, Oklahoma, USA. He became Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Georgetown University, Washington, DC, USA in 1989. In 2001, he helped found the Laboratory of Clinical Genomics at the US National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). He became Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Director of School of Biomedical Sciences, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong in 2009. His expertise is in developmental genomics and epigenomics, and molecular genetics of reproductive and endocrine disorders. He received the 1988 Merrick Award for Outstanding Biomedical Research from the Oklahoma Medical Research Founda¬tion and the 2008 Presidential Award from the Association of Chinese Geneticists in America. He serves in the editorial board of 10 international scientific journals and in study sections of a number of research funding agencies including the US NIH, the Wellcome Trust and Health Research Board of UK, etc. He has edited 5 books, and published over 145 scientific articles.
