Biography

WG Bergen served as faculty member at Michigan State from 1967-1995 rising from Assistant to Full Professor. In 1995 he was appointed Head of Animal and Dairy Sciences at Auburn University and returned to the faculty as Professor of Biochemistry in Cellular and Molecular Biosciences/Animal Sciences in 1999. Under his tutelage 25 graduate students received the PhD degree while another 40 students obtained the Master’s degree.

Research Interest

WG Bergen research interests are Gene-nutrient interactions, regulation of lipogenic gene expression, lipid metabolism, repartitioning of nutrients from adipose to lean tissues; protein metabolism, amino acid nutrition, regulation of protein synthesis and degradation. Integration of basic animal research with production applications (translational research). Further interest in using animal models such as the domestic pig in biometrically oriented lipid metabolism and obesity research.
