Biography

Dr. Hutchison earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from State University of New York at Stony Brook with specialties in mathematical learning theory and behavioral systems analysis. He was founding director of SUNY\\s environment-behavior systems analysis program in London, then taught in the Ph.D. program in Behavioral Systems Analysis at West Virginia University. In 1983 he applied the equations from quantitative analysis of behavior to invent one of first modern neural network models. He cofounded BehavHeuristics, Inc., which developed one of the earliest and most successful applications of neural networks, a yield optimization system for USAir that earned the company $140 million in its first year. Subsequently he founded Applied Behavior Systems and MeMeMe, Inc. He conducted R&D for the government’s Intelligence Technology Innovation Center focused on biologically-inspired models of evolution plus learning, with applications to high degree of freedom robots in complex natural environments. His other special interest is in robotic language learning with understanding.
