Dr Cheung received the BSc degree with First Class Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Middlesex University, U.K. in 1982 and the PhD degree from Loughborough University, U.K. in 1986.
From 1986 and 1988, he was a post-doctorate research assistant at Kings College, London University. In 1988, he joined the Radio and Satellite Communications Division in British Telecom Research Laboratories (now British Telecom Laboratories). Before he joined the University of Hong Kong, he was with Asia Satellite Telecommunications Limited. Dr Cheung is an Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong.
He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer, Member of the HKIE, Fellow of the IET, and senior member of the IEEE. He was Chairman of the IEEE Hong Kong Joint Chapter on Circuits and Systems and Communications (CAS/COM) in 2009 and 2010, and currently the Treasurer of the IEEE Hong Kong Section.
His Research Interest includes Antennas Designs, Mobile Communications, Satellite Communications, MIMO systems, Space-Time coding and modulation
