Dr. Liang graduated with BSc(Hon) and PhD in Pharmacology from the University of British Columbia, Canada. After a postdoctoral stay at Simon Fraser University, Canada, he joined Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as a faculty member where a research platform using myography and Ca2+ imaging techniques to study bladder and vascular smooth muscle function was established. Currently he is a member of the Institute of Chinese Medicine and School of Chinese Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Over the years, his research has been supported by extramural funding from the Singapore and Hong Kong governments. The funded projects include: 1. Endothelial Ca2+ oscillations in the maintenance of blood vessel tone; 2. Direction-specific differences in bladder smooth muscle contractility; 3. Uroactive eicosanoids in bladder smooth muscle contraction; 4. Chinese herbal supplements in the treatment of overactive bladder.
Dr. Liang's current interests are: 1. Mucosal secretions in bladder smooth muscle contractility; 2. Herbal effects on bladder smooth muscle contractility.
