Biography

Dr. Yao-Chun Shen obtained his BSc, MSc and PhD in Electronics at Nanjing University, in 1986, 1989 and 1992 respectively. Subsequently, he joined the Department of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, Southeast University, first as a postdoctoral researcher, and then as a faculty member. After that he held various research fellowships at Heidelberg University, Heriot-Watt University, and Cambridge University. Dr. Shen joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, University of Liverpool as a Senior Lecturer in 2007. Before this he has been working on terahertz-related technology for many years, first as a Research Associate (2001-2004) at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, and then as a Senior Scientist (2004-2007) at TeraView Limited, Cambridge. His research is focused on the development of novel sensing and imaging technology, and on commercial and industrial applications of such technology. In particular, he has an outstanding track record on research into terahertz (THz) imaging technology, and on the applications of such technology in a range of industry sectors. His past research has led to 8 patents, 3 book chapters and over 80 peer reviewed journal/conference papers that are highly cited with an h-index of 23.

Research Interest

His research is focused on the development of novel sensing and imaging technology, and on commercial and industrial applications of such technology. In particular, he has an outstanding track record on research into terahertz (THz) imaging technology, and on the applications of such technology in a range of industry sectors.
