Zhang received her undergraduate degree in engineering in 1996 at Tsinghua University in China. She earned a master′s degree in solid mechanics engineering in 2002, and a PhD in computational engineering and science in 2005 from the University of Texas at Austin. Zhang, one of 17 award recipients nationwide, was selected by the Department of Defense′s (DOD) Office of Naval Research. Pittsburg-Carnegie Mellon University′s Yongjie (Jessica) Zhang has received a three-year, $510,000 Young Investigator award for research excellence from the Office of Naval Research. She has authored about research publications that include 3 book chapters, 33 review articles and he has given 60 meeting presentations and 26 invited seminars. She organized/chaired 37 symposiums/sessions at national and international meetings. She serves on the editorial board member and reviewer for reputed journals.
