Biography

Dr. SC. Å½eljan Maleš, is a full professor with tenure and head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Botany with Pharmaceutical Botanical Garden “Fran Kušan” Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry University of Zagreb. Professor Maleš teaches Pharmaceutical Botany.
After completing master program in analytical chemistry and pharmacy dr. sc. Å½. Maleš got his PhD title in the field of pharmacy in 1995. He spent his carrier at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, obtaining a full professor with tenure title in 2010. He was principal investigator and collaborator of seven scientific projects and visiting scientist at Institut für Pharmakognosie der Karl-Franzens-Universität, Graz, Austria on numerous occasions. Professor Maleš published 85 scientific papers.
He is member of editorial board of “Acta Pharmaceutica” and “Farmaceutski glasnik”. He got numerous awards including “Medal prof. dr. Julije Domac” - the highest honorable award of the Croatian Pharmaceutical Society.

Research Interest

1.Chemical composition of plant species: qualitative and quantitative analysis of flavonoids, phenolic acids, tannins, essential oils.
2.Thin-layer chromatography.
3.Biological activities of plant species: antimicrobial and antioxidant.
