Seeking to assess the analytical rigor of empirical research in management education, this article reviews the use of multivariate statistical techniques in 85 studies of online and hybrid management education over the past decade. and compares them with the prescriptions proposed by study organizations and educational research communities. . While there are variations in the extent to which the techniques have been used appropriately, they appear to have been adopted more quickly than is generally the case in organizational studies research. Suggestions emerging from the review include higher consideration of moderating effects, particularly those that have historically been considered as "control" variables, and reduced dependence on exploratory factor analysis techniques for reducing data, except when examining conceptual frameworks composed of constructions borrowed from disparate domains. . The authors hope that this review will motivate further examination of the appropriate uses of these techniques in other areas of research in management education.
