Articles On Adipose Tissue

Adipose tissue is a type of connective tissue in the body whose function is to store body’s extra energy in the form of lipids.Adipose tissue is primarily composed of adipocytes as well as macrophages, pre adipocytes, endothelial cells, fibro blasts, and leucocytes, has been increasingly recognized as a major player of systemically metabolic regulation. As the fuel reservoir, adipose tissue conserves the heat of the body and controls the lipid mobilization.Adipose tissues secrete various hormones, cytokines, and metabolites (termed as adipokines) that control systemic energy balance by regulating appetitive signals from the central nerve system as well as metabolic activity in peripheral tissues. The adipose tissue is a central metabolic organ in the regulation of complete body energy homeostasis. The white adipose tissue functions is a key energy reservoir for other organs, whereas the brown adipose tissue accumulates lipids for cold-induced adaptive thermogenesis.
