Artificial immune systems are, computationally rule-based artificial intelligence, smart machine learning systems inspired by the concepts and processes of the vertebrate immune system. Usually the algorithms are developed according to the learning and memory properties of the immune system for use in problem solving. The Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) area is concerned with abstracting the structure and role of the immune system to computational systems and exploring the application of these systems to solve engineering, mathematics, and information technology computational problems. AIS is a sub-field of biologically inspired computing and natural computing with interest in machine learning and belonging to Artificial Intelligence's broader field. Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) are adaptive systems, inspired by theoretical immunology, and observed immune functions, concepts, and models used to solve problems.
