Bone Tissue Engineering

While natural bone repair provides a singular precedent for stem cell-mediated tissue regeneration, enhancement of bone’s innate regenerative capacity is vital so on satisfy the clinical needs of an aging population. Bone tissue engineering, an approach during which osteogenic cells are loaded onto materials, is differently to realize repair almost like that achieved with autologous bone. This principle has been studied extensively, as is described elsewhere in this publication. Two studies, for example, are studies in rodents with relatively small defects. Mesenchymal stem cells from other tissues like adipose tissue can also be used. It is possible to fabricate tissue-engineered bone for giant bone defects by using large-size scaffold materials. For large tissue-engineered bone, perfusion represents a limitation.  It is during this context that TE has been emerging as a legitimate approach to the present therapies for bone regeneration/substitution. The present review pretends to offer an exhaustive overview on all components needed for creating bone tissue engineering a successful therapy.
