Cardiac Care Nursing

Cardiac care nurses are nursing professionals who treat lifelong patients of all ages with heart problems and disorders such as cardiac arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction, unstable angina, congestive heart failure, bypass surgery and others. While the cardiac care nurse's responsibilities and duties will vary from setting to setting, after surgery they may perform health assessments, stress tests, administer heart medications, assist in defibrillation, or care for patients. These nurses can be seen operating in areas of cardiac catheterisation, areas of heart pain, surgical suites, some cardiac nursing duties include, but are not limited to: Monitoring pain, taking medicine, inserting and withdrawing IVs, Checking and testing patients, Track heart and blood vessel readings, Electromagnetic cardiograms (EKGs), Carry out stress tests, Educate patients and their loved ones about diseases, procedures, treatments and techniques for prevention, Provide postoperative treatment following replacements, bypasses, and other cardiac operations, Work with various chronic health problems, Usage of a defibrillator system, Assist cardiologists and surgeons in operations and other duties
