Childhood obesity is an ailment that influences kids. It occurs when a child is above the normal weight for their age and height. This condition is serious because the extra pounds often cause children to go on to health problems that are limited to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It can also cause low self-esteem and depression. There are many reasons for childhood obesity. The most common factor is the genetic factor. Lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating habits or a combination of the two may also be the reason. Obese children are at risk for a number of conditions such as: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, early heart disease, diabetes, problems bone, skin conditions like rash, fungal infections and acne. Being overweight and obese also increases the risk of many types of cancer, including breast, colon, endometrial, esophagus, kidney cancer , pancreas, gallbladder, thyroid, ovaries, cervix and prostate, as well as multiple myeloma and Hodgkin lymphoma. Obese children tend to become obese adults.
