Communication Disorders Impact Factor

Communication disorders are the impairments that affect an individualÂ’s ability to communicate. It commonly refers to problems in speech (comprehension and/or expression) that significantly interfere with an individualÂ’s achievement and/or quality of life. There are number of disorders and tendencies being included under the clinical science of communication disorders. Communication disorders include speech and language disorders which refer to problems in communication and in related areas such as oral motor function. The delays and disorders can range from simple sound substitution to the inability to understand or use one's native language. Communication disorders are usually first diagnosed in childhood though they are not limited as childhood disorders and may persist even into adulthood or otherwise emerge later at adolescence. These communication disorders are usually accompanied with other disorders. The diagnosis of communication disorders involves testing and evaluation and the results are determined in the terms of scores/performances. This assessment also determines if the characteristic under study is deviant or will be delayed. If the score/performance is found to be substantially below the developmental expectations then they will significantly interfere with the academic achievement, social interactions and daily living.
