Non-melanoma skin cancers represent the most common type of cancer across the globe. It is estimated that there will be approximately 3.5 million new diagnoses of non-melanoma skin cancer. Although non-melanoma cancers are common and slow growing, thousands of patients die each year from neglected skin cancers that spread to and interfere with vital organs of the body. Typically, non-melanoma skin cancers appear in areas of the body that have had high exposure to the sun and certain athletes are particularly prone to sun exposure with little being done to prevent skin cancer in this at risk group.
