Management of the supply chain (SCM), overseeing the distribution of products and services, includes the transportation and storage of raw materials, inventories of work-in - process and finished goods from point of production to point of consumption. Linked, integrated or linked networks, channels and node businesses combine in a supply chain to provide the goods and services needed by end customers. Supply chain management has been described as the 'design, preparation, execution, control and monitoring of supply chain activities with the goal of generating net value, building a competitive network, leveraging global logistics, synchronizing demand supply and measuring global performance. SCM research relies heavily on industrial engineering, process engineering, operations management, logistics, sourcing, IT and marketing.
