Synthetic biology is a new interdisciplinary field which involves the application of engineering principles to biology. It targets the (re) design and manufacture of biological components and systems that do not already exist in the natural world. Synthetic biology associate the chemical synthesis of DNA with a burgeoning knowledge of genomics to allow researchers to quickly assemble cataloged DNA sequences and assemble them into new genomes.
