Trastuzumab, marketed under the brand name Herceptin among others, is a monoclonal antibody used to treat breast cancer and stomach cancer. The HER2 receptor positive is primarily used for cancer. It may be used alone or in combination with other chemotherapy medications. Trastuzumab is administered by slow injection into a vein and injection just below the skin. Common side effects include headache, fever, cough, sleeping disorders, infections, and rash. Use during pregnancy can harm the baby. Trastuzumab works by binding to the receptor HER2 and slowing down duplication of the cells.
