The white rot pathogen can be seen in plants. The symptoms are yellowing, leaf dieback, and wilting. Leaf decay starts at the base, older leaves begin to collapse at this stage. This will result in a semi-watery decay of the bulb scales. Roots of the plant can be pulled off from the ground with ease if they are infected by the white rot pathogen. In the beginning stages of this disease development the fungal mycelium can be seen which is a white cotton like substance that is formed on the plants associated with the rot developed at the base of the bulb. As the disease progresses, the mycelium becomes more compacted and less conspicuous, with numerous small, spherical black bodies which is called sclerotic forming on this mycelia mat.
