Oncology is a branch of medical science that deals with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of various types of cancers/tumours in the body. The person/physician dealing with this particular topic is called as an oncologist.

It is majorly divided into 3 major parts they are Medical oncology, surgical oncology and Radiation oncology. The cancers have to be cured only through chemo therapy or some other drugs such as immunotherapy. In some cases the cancers can be cured by surgeries by removing the tumor and the nearby tissue while performing the surgery.
Medical Oncologist
It is a way of treating the cancers using the chemotherapy or some other drugs like immunotherapy.
Surgical Oncology
It is a surgical process for treating cancers. The surgeon removes the infected tumour and the nearby infected tissues while performing the surgery.
Radiation Oncology
It is a process of treating cancers using the radiation. These are the three main oncology types. There are also other types of oncologies like pediatric oncology, gynecologic oncology, hematologic oncology.
Oncologist
The oncologist is a doctor or physician who guides the patient from the starting stage of cancer till the cure is done and discharged. He is the one who plays a major role. He gives the patient positive support. The major roles of the oncologist are.
Explaining the patient about the cure options and the stage of diagnosis, Giving and discussing all the possible treatment options, providing the quality care and providing the positive support.
The cancers can be diagnosed through computerized tomography scan, scanning of the bone, ultrasound, x-ray, positron emission tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and biopsy.
You can detect the cancers using the symptoms. Some of the main symptoms include tumor in the body, weight loss, High temperature, cough, anaemia, Bleeding Bloating, Shortness of breath, back pain.
The people who are suffering with cancers has a high chance of developing deep vein thrombosis. This is due to the thickening of blood as some of the tumor substances released into the blood.
Some of the cancers do not show symptoms at all. But may lead to final stage by the symptoms start appearing and the diagnosis starts. It is very important to consult the doctor at the earliest possible when you start noticing the minor symptoms. As early stage cancers are easily treated when compared to the advanced stages.
Do not hesitate to consult the doctor and discuss with him all the symptoms in details lke present history, past history, family history. If your family doctor has a doubt he may refer to the specialist for further examination.
Metastasis
It is the division of the cancer cells to different parts with in the body. Based on the spread the doctor decides the stage of cancer. The last of cancer is called the metastatic cancer.
