Frank Knight, an influential economist, introduced the distinction between "risk" and "uncertainty" in his seminal work, Risk, Uncertainty, and Profit. According to Knight, "risk" refers to situations where outcomes are unknown but can be quantified with probabilities. In contrast, "uncertainty" (often termed Knightian uncertainty) represents situations where the outcomes are unknown, and probabilities cannot be assigned. In the world of entrepreneurship, Knightian uncertainty is the rule rather than the exception. Entrepreneurs must often act on incomplete information, rely on intuition, and venture into uncharted territories where future outcomes cannot be precisely predicted [1].
