One such concern is the increased occurrence of atrial arrhythmia, a condition characterized by irregular heart rhythms originating in the upper chambers of the heart. This article explores the intriguing association between aortic coarctation and atrial arrhythmia in adult patients, with a specific focus on the impact of age and intracardiac interventions on this relationship. Studies have revealed a notable increase in the occurrence of atrial arrhythmia in adults with aortic coarctation compared to the general population.
The mechanisms underlying this association are multifaceted and may be linked to the complex hemodynamic changes that occur in individuals with aortic coarctation.
