Biography

Eleni Skaltsa is a professor in Pharmacognosy & Chemistry of Natural Products department in University of Athens. She received her Ph.D in 1986 from the University of Athens.

Research Interest

I. Isolation and structure elucidation of secondary metabolites from plants:
Terpenes: Sesquiterpene lactones, iridoids, diterpenes, monoterpene glucosides, triterpenic acids etc.
Phenolic compounds: flavonoids, phenylethanoid glycosides, simple phenols, lignans, catechins, depsides, proanthocyanidin glycosides, naphthodianthrones, quinones etc.
Essential oils - volatile constituents
II. Biological activities
Antibacteriophage, antimicrobial activities.
Cytotoxicity, antioxidant/antiinflammatory.
Tyrosinase inhibition.
III. History of Pharmacy, with emphasis on Greek classic, Roman/hellenistic and Byzantine periods.
