The objectives of this research were to study the yield, biogas production potential, grass pellet, and biomass produced from Napier Raak Kaew grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach). All of main points need to produce energy material as fuel on the sustainable electricity biomass generation. The first result gave the maximum yield of the grass at 105 tons/rai/year. The second, this experiments by analysis BMP test method were shown biogas production potential at 455 m3/ton ODS or 101 m3/ton fresh grass. However, the result found that the fresh grass had the potential to produce the specific methane yield at 243 m3 CH4/ton ODS or 53.9 CH4/ton fresh grass. The third, grass pellet was produced from the grass was cutting interval at 90 days. The analysis results were found by EN 14918 standard method showed that the Gross Calorific Value as received basis and as determined basis were 4,075 and 4,127 Kcal/Kg respectively. The net calorific value as received basis was 3,749 Kcal/Kg. In addition, the total moisture was 7.48% and the bulk density was 17.14 Kg/m3. Finally, this grass was used as fuel on biomass power plant was cutting interval at 120 days. The analysis results by ASTM D5865-11a method showed that the gross calorific value and the net calorific value as dry basis were 4,406 and 4,109 Kcal/Kg or 18.44 and 17.19 Mj/Kg respectively.
Somkiat Kruaysawat has his expertise in removal of low molecular weight gases by activated carbon adsorption in air pollution and water pollution and renewable energy (wood pellet and biomass). He had got a Scholarship from Sripatum University to study PhD Program in Environmental Engineering. Till now, he has been working as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor in Chemistry) at Department of Applied Science, Institute of General Education, Sripatum University since 1997.
