This qualitative research was conducted to explore the local doctor around the area of Nakhon Chai Burin. The data
was collected by using in-depth interviews to local doctors. The data was done using the survey and collected 5
times at Nakhon Chai Burin area. There were 24 samples with 7 categories: 1) herbal local doctor, 2) blowing doctor,
3) fortune doctor, 4) drugs making doctor, 5) ritual doctor, 6) Medium doctor, and 7) midwife.
This research was found that most of the local doctors were working as the farmers. The main factors as follows:
1. The beginning of being a local doctor was to inherit from the ancestors and to learn to help other people
2. Perform the ceremony of showing respects to teachers by 5 Skandhas or 8 Skandhas and the amount of
money by faith
3. The nature of illness at the service which was divided into the chronic illness, acute illness, general illness,
and the fortune telling as well as providing mental supervision.
4. The follow-up by local doctor
5. The self-morality and good deeds of the local doctor. For the knowledge of the midwife, it was found that
most of the inheritance derived from the ancestors or the experience of mother or grandmother.
The main issues were as follows:
1. The procedure of the delivery of the baby
2. The procedure of the placenta and umbilical cord
3. The procedure of mother and child care, and 4) The use of herbs in postpartum care.
Miss Nareelux Suwannobol has completed her PhD on 20 from Burapa University,Thailand. Recently, she is the faculty, Family Health and Midwifery Nursing Department of Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand. She has experienced of service and teaching about Family and Midwifery nursing for nursing service and nursing students more than 30 years. She has published in reputed Thai and other journals. She has presented research by using poster and oral in other countries.
