Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a chronic neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by developmentally inappropriate levels of hyperactivity-impulsivity and/or inattention, lead to impairments in many aspects of living. It is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous syndrome with multiple possible aetiologies. ADHD is the most common neurobehavioral disorder affecting children in the world, with worldwide prevelance of 7.2% according to results of meta analysis of 179 studies. Boys are twice as likely as girls to developed this diagnosis. ADHD is more than just typical toddler behavior. This condition can extend beyond toddler age to affect teens and even adults. It is very important to recognize symptoms and signs of ADHD in early childhood. As people with ADHD have higher rates of comorbid psychiatric, developmental and, medical conditions. Individuals with ADHD are more likely to drop out of school and fail to maintain a job. They are more prone to drug addiction, alcohol abuse, and realtionship failure. Children with ADHD have fewer friends. Evaluation and diagnosis of ADHD must be conducted by mutlidisplinary team including health care profissionals, parents and teachers, by using valid clinical and psychometric tools. Early and effective treatment of ADHD has been reported to yield a better prognosis and fewer problems in adulthood. Clinical management of ADHD must address core symptoms of the disorder, multiple comorbid conditions and manage a range of adverse functional outcomes. Therapeutic approaches should be suitable to each child's neurodevelopmental profile, social and family circumstances, and integrated with educational, mental health and social support services.
