Background: When deaths occur in the emergency room one of the major concerns of nursesâ?? is to provide psychological
support to the family of the deceased. However due to less staffing and greater expectation from their expended role, nurses
faced difficulty in providing such support to the bereaved family. Moreover, this task increases work load of nurses.
Objective: The purpose of the study is to assess nursesâ?? knowledge, attitude and perception towards the need of psychological
support to the family of deceased patient in emergency and critical care area.
Methodology: A sample of 13 nurses participated. A questionnaire tool regarding knowledge, attitude and perception of
nurses towards the psychological support to family of deceased was used, for pre and posttest evaluation. In implementation
phase, conduct classes and role play which were based on clinical scenarios.
Results: The result analyzed and 13 out 13 participants strongly agreed that psychological support plays very important role
for familiesâ?? condolence at the time of death of their loved. Teaching work workshop enhanced their skill in patient care as well
as guide HCP, how to support family at the time of end of life care, for sustainability I develop a module and handed over to
the head nurse for further education.
Conclusion: In conclusion I would like to say that the overall goal of this project was to provide the quality care to the grieving
families till the body of deceased is moved from emergency department. .
