Abstract :

The production of household waste is very important in the world, four million tons of household waste are produced every day. If this is not managed effectively, it can have harmful impacts on the environment and jeopardize the future of the planet in general and the city of Goma in particular. This article attempts to insert the waste management systems of the city of Goma in the context of governance. It advances the debate on environmental governance with a view to deepening our understanding of urban issues in the city Goma. We hope that this publication will lead to concerted measures to solve the serious problem of urban waste management in the city of Goma, and that it will allow us to deepen our understanding of the issues and improve the quality of Goma city urban environment life. The population of Goma have never really learned to throw their household waste in the bins and to sort it. So far, the inhabitants and environmental actors of the city of Goma have not yet succeeded in setting up an effective mechanism and strategies for sorting and recycling household waste. Through globalization, we can manage to create this habit in the community of using biodegradable food packaging (banana leaf, etc.) and therefore throwing them away in nature. Now these packaging can change, so that their habit does not remain the same. These packaging will not now be mainly made of plastic, a non-biodegradable material that pollutes nature more and more every day. The management of household waste in Goma is alarming, it has terrible impacts on the environment and more particularly on the beauty of nature and the landscapes of the city of Goma. In order to limit these impacts, it has become essential to make the inhabitants and urban authorities of Goma aware of the responsible management solutions that exist. This is what the various environmental protection associations present on site in Goma are doing. Their hard work and determination are advancing household waste management in this city. By raising the awareness of the population and more particularly schools, they anchor the responsible management of household waste in the education and lifestyles of the population. Thus thanks to this, in the future household waste will no longer be thrown away in nature but sorted and recycled throughout the territory of the city of Goma in particular and in the DRC in general. Hence the importance of building capacity and tools (technological upgrading) in waste recycling.
