Hematopoietic stem cell (HSCT) / Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is a lifesaving treatment for variety of diseases including blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, Myeloma etc as well as benign disorders like aplastic anemia and thalassaemia. Albeit there is much known about Hematopoietic stem cell (HSCT) / Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) in the scientific community, there is a lack of awareness about it among the common man. The high cost of the testing and the misconception that BMT is highly painful has led to a handful of donors in India. This has made the whole situation more critical for the recipient. Moreover India doesn?t have its own registry making the recipient wait for the right match from the International registry. This paper presents a review on Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) and the issues related to it.
