Abstract :

Statistical societies worldwide have declared 2013 to be the International Year of Statistics (Statistics2013). Ron Wasserstein, Executive Director of the ASA and member of the Statistics2013 Steering Committee, will report on activities around the world that are taking place as part of this celebration of the power and impact of statistics. He will also talk about why activities such as Statistics2013 are important to the practice and profession of statistics.

Biography :

Ron Wasserstein has been Executive Director of the American Statistical Association, the world's largest professional society of statisticians, since August 2007. Prior to that he worked for 23 years as a faculty member and administrator at Washburn University. The last seven of those years he served as the university's chief academic officer. Wasserstein earned the Ph.D. in Statistics from Kansas State University. He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
