Presently, Krathum Baen Hospital has an increasing number of postpartum women and increasing expenditure but limited budgets. Thus, cost analysis of nursing activities is necessary in order to increase nursing efficiency. This descriptive research investigated costs of nursing activities and per-unit cost of a normal postpartum case. The sample groups were 11 nurses working in the special ward and 30 postpartum women. The instruments were a nursing activities dictionary and records of general information, personnel and materials costs, investment costs, amount of nursing workload/activities and amount of services provided. The validity of the instruments was 1, assessed using descriptive statistics (number, percentage and mean). The study found that the per-unit cost of each case was 549.23 Baht consisting of costs of activities, from highest to lowest: Continuous care 331.53 Baht; management 149.89 Baht; discharge 66.73 Baht; initial admission 30.94 Baht and preparation for a new patient 15.14 Baht. The research results indicate that cost analysis of nursing activities is important for nursing administrators in preparing and controlling budgets for providing adequate and good quality services.
