The term ?Diabesity? , was used for the first time in 1970 to highlight the close relation between obesity and Diabetes ; after the widespread of the bariatric surgery in the 20th century , it was noticed that patients with diabetes and obesity have reached normoglycemia levels few days after the surgery ; this led to the postulation of the incretin effect theory, in which bariatric surgery can affect positively the glucose Homeostasis , either by increasing positive incretin mediators or by decreasing the levels of anti-incretin mediators. Based on this theory , this treatment is being indicated for diabetics who are non morbidly obese; And maybe in the near future , such procedures could be considered as the first treatment modality for diabesity or even for diabetes without obesity !
