Abstract :

MDT has been endorsed as a crucial part of ensuring better outcomes for vascular patients; however, the evidence underpinning MDT meetings isn’t strong and the degree to which they have been clinically absorbed varies widely. This audit uncovers whether MDT decisions have reflected those made in practice and assesses how seriously any change would affect the net result. A retrospective study of 278 MDT decisions set from January 2020 till May 2020. Surprisingly, no standard was found to compare for vascular MDT decision implementation despite having some standards for lung cancer. Also, another study in UK focused on patient factors in decision-making and implementation in cancer urology patients. Neither of these studies has deliberately considered the consequences of MDT decisions alterations. Despite achieving (85.6%) compliance, consequences were deleterious. Abortion of treatment was recorded in 1/3 of angioplasty patients and 1/4 of open surgical procedures due to various factors. Surgical procedures cancellation was significantly detrimental. System delay of procedures and intra operative change of patient management as other sources of MDT decisions change have caused more harms than expected by the surgeons. This study has shown many serious unpredicted consequences which need to be evaluated on wider basis and in many centers to reach better patient results. How seriously COVID era affected procedures’ results? National standards have to be applied for MDT meetings to attain better execution and stop preventable sources of futile outcomes.
