Time is a critical factor when a crime has been committed and the investigation begins. Information about the perpetrator?s identity is therefore deduced from the evidence left at the scene. A person?s height (i.e., stature) is one of the most important identifying characteristic that is often used. Many different parts of the body can be also used to estimate stature. In the present study an attempt has been made to evaluate a possible correlation between stature and lower limb dimensions i.e. Femur Length (FL), Tibial Length (TL), Fibular Length (FBL) and Foot Length (FTL) among Baniya and Kayastha communities of Bundelkhand region of India. The data for the present study consisted of 2000 subjects; 500 males and 500 females for each population. All the subjects ranged in age from 18 to 40 years and collected from various educational institutes. In the present study all the measurements have been obtained on each subject using the standard techniques given by Martin and Saller (1959) and Allbrook (1961). It was found that all the four parameters showed a correlation with stature but at different degrees (significance calculated through the t-test at 5% level). Mathematical formulae for estimating stature were developed for each of these parameters through basic linear regression. It can be concluded that the present study has provided regression equations for four different parameters that can be used for stature estimation in the Bundelkhand region of India.
